Too Much is Not Enough was written between 2014 and 2017, except for "Nicotine Lullaby" which was written way back in 2005. This record was made primarily at home in Chicago with primarily my own devices and imagination.
This album almost never got released. For me, releasing an album is always the worst part of creating a record. It's amazing to watch songs form in the back of your head, and trans-mutate into the final (or not so final) product that ends up getting released. What's harder is putting that creation out into the world, fearing that people might not understand it, or might not like it. Everyone wants to see the hardships of their labor bring them great recognition and fortune, and that's never a very likely scenario.
I struggled for several years on if I really wanted to keep writing; keep performing. For years I questioned my personal identity, and what kind of person I could possibly be without music creation in it. Music creation made me sad, constantly left me unsatisfied, and disappointed.
But throughout that entire time, one thing stayed the same: I kept writing.
I know I can't truly lay to rest that which I cannot stop doing, through the good times, but especially through the bad.
So I'll keep making the music with or without you, the listener. However, if you find a connection in my songs, then I graciously invite you to take as much ownership of these songs as I do. I hope they go where they are needed most.
I'll see you next record.
